We finally got our chickens! We went and picked them up on my birthday and brought them home to live. Our dog loves them and was completely baffled the first night that they spent the night in the little loft that Jeff has built for them. He could hear them, but couldn't find them! The chicks love him too- whenever he comes over to visit the coop, they all run over to his side and look at him. Jack then tries to scratch at them, lick them, whine, or bark at them in order to communicate. The red one's name is Rosie. She was named by our 5 year old neighbor at the time because "she was red". She wanted to name the other 2 "Hazy and Lazy" b/c Hazy wouldn't read her books and Lazy wouldn't get up. We thought that we would give Jonathan a shot. He wanted to name them after his cousins: Will and Abby (sorry Mason and Kendall). Jeff and I tried several times to get him to give them a different name, to no avail. We both decided that naming chickens, that are expendable, after family members could lead to trouble in the event of chicken death or disease. So, after a month of calling them chicken, chicken, and Rosie, we have finally decided on names. Clara (after Nurse Clara Barton), and Drought (b/c she is our least favorite). are fine. They are growing very quickly and eat and poop a ton. I like to go out and look at them when I can get away from the dog and Jonathan. They are actually very peaceful to listen to.Other updates:
My boys were in a wedding the weekend before Halloween. Jonathan was one of 2 ring-bearers and Jeff was a groomsman. (notice where the ring pillow ended up) Our Minister of Music/Youth, Chris Wood is also a good friend and almost next door neighbor. I was so proud of both of them. Jonathan made it down the aisle without incident and Jeff was a perfect example of a good Daddy the whole ceremony. He had to hold Jonathan the majority of the ceremony. It was an outside wedding and both boys were very handsome. Chris brought Jonathan's outfit by the house the Thursday night before the Sat wedding (Jeff didn't get his completely until Sat evening an hour before the wedding). When I asked Jonathan to try it on completely so that I could go ahead and wash it, he told me that he wanted his picture taken. He then proceeded to tell me where we needed to take the photo and what he needed in the photo with him! What a ham!
Jonathan was Tigger for Halloween. (We didn't dress up on the actual day- he got to dress up at his preschool and at our Fall Extravaganza) We also made 2 Jack-o-lanterns for the first time. Jeff actually grew the pumpkins in his little garden outside the fire station. It was pretty fun, but Jonathan didn't really like the gooey insides at all! He did get to design one of them though.
Not to be outdone- I was in Rebecca's beautiful wedding in Sept. with my son. If you haven't seen her pictures yet- ask her about them. I was so impressed with the entire wedding and of course- the bride was absolutely stunning!
So far- November hasn't been as hectic, although more trying on my patience! We have begun to potty train!!!!! WE haven't really begun, I already know how to use the potty. Jonathan enjoys getting treats, but doesn't seem to care one way or the other if he is stinky or wet. Maybe it is still too early or maybe he just likes being wet. I'm not really sure. I will write more on that another day.
